Hi dear,
Repulsion between protons within the nucleus leads to larger ratios of neutron to proton , for stable nucleii for increasing mass numbers.
Neutron deficit nucleii would undergo alpha decay to increase their N/Z ( neutron to proton) ratios.
The energy converted from mass energy to kinetic energy is called the Q value which is shared between nucleus and the alpha particle abiding the law of conservation of momentum.
Packing fraction is a measure of stability of a nucleus ={( mass defect ) X 104 }/ mass number.
Hope this satisfies your quetion.
Regards,
Aruna
