Let the zeros of f(x) be a and b
Hence, a^2 + b^2 = 40
i.e. (a+b)^2 - 2ab = 40
Since, the sum of roots for quadratic equation f(x) = ax^2+bx+c = 0 is equal to -b/a and product of roots is equal to c/a
Hence, a+b = 8, ab = k
Hence, 8^2 -2*k = 40
2*k = 24
k = 12
