Openings called stomata are present on the leaves.
i) Exchange of gases occurs through these stomata to carry out photosynthesis, without which the food of the plant cannot be prepared.
ii) Also stomata allows the entry of oxygen and exit of carbon dioxide.to carry out respiration. This is essential to release the energy from food.
iii) Transpiration occurs through the stomata, without which water and minerals cannot be transported upwards from the roots of the plant.
Coating the plant leaves with vaseline will block the stomata, due to which photosynthesis, respiration and transpiration cannot be carried out. Without photosynthesis, respiration and transpiration, the plant will not be able to survive for long.
