Expert Answer

x2 - 1 is a factor of the given polynomial,

then, x2 = 1

x = 1 and x = -1

Put x = 1, in the polynomial,

1+a-3+2+b = 0

a+b = 0        .... (1)

Put x = -1, in the polynomial,

1-a-3-2+b = 0

b-a = 4  ....(2)

Solving (1) and (2),

a = -2, b = 2.
