As we know, the magnetic field due to current through a long circular cylinder, at apoint inside the cylinder is  given as

begin mathsize 11px style straight B space equals space fraction numerator straight mu subscript 0 straight mu subscript straight r Ir over denominator 2 πa squared end fraction space straight i. straight e. space straight B space proportional to space straight r end style

Clearly, the magnetic field inside the wire B=const times r, so it is proportional to r. It is zero for a point on the axis of cylinder, and an increase linearly with increasing distance from the centre of the wire. It is maximum for a point on the surface of cylinder.

On the other hand, the magnetic field outside is given as, begin mathsize 11px style straight B space equals space fraction numerator straight mu subscript 0 space straight I over denominator 2 πr end fraction space space straight i. straight e. space straight B space proportional to space 1 over straight r end style
