Expert Answer
The metal in the reactions with an acid displaces hydrogen from
the acids. This is seen as hydrogen gas. The metal combines with the
remaining part of the acid and forms a compound called a salt. Thus,
the reaction of a metal with an acid can be summarised as –
Acid + Metal → Salt + Hydrogen gas
Example:
2 NaOH + Zn → Na2ZnO2 + H2
(Sodium Zincate)
Test of Hydrogen gas:Pass the gas being evolved through the soap solution. Bubbles will be formed in the soap solution.Take a burning candle near a gas filled bubble. If the gas is hydrogen it burns with a pop sound.
