Dividing x4-6x3+16x2-25x+10  by x2-2x+k by the long division method,

we get quotient = x2-4x+8-k, remainder = (-9+2k)x +10 +k2 - 8k

Given that remainder = x+ a

Hence, -9+2k = 1 which gives  k = 5

10 +k2 - 8k = a

putting value of k = 5, we get a = -5
