Cells which form the outer covering of all exposed parts of plants are known as epidermal cells. These cells form single layer. They are thin walled, living parenchymatous cells. This layer is mostly coveres externally by cuticle.

They are made up of the same material as that of other parenchymatous cells i.e. carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, nucleic acids, minerals etc.
