Question: In a class, there are 50 students in which 40 are boys and the rest are girls. The average weight of the students in the class is 44 kg and the average weight of the girls is 40 kg. Find the average weight of the boys (in kg).
Solution:
Out of 50 students, 40 are boys and so the number of girls is 10.
The average weight of the total students in the class is 44 kg.
The total sum of weights of all the students = 44 x 50 = 2200 kg
The average weight of the girls is 40 kg.
So, the sum of weights of all the girls = 40 x 10 = 400 kg
Therefore, the sum of weights of all the boys = 2200 - 400 = 1800 kg
Thus, the average weight of the boys = 1800/40 = 45 kg.
