The average weight of the students in a class is 62 kg. When two students with weights of 43 kg and 45 kg, leave the class, then the average weight of the class increases by 2 kg. How many students were there in the class initially?
Solution:
Let the number of students initially be 'x'.
Let the total sum of the ages be 'n'.
Therefore, n/x = 62
n = 62x ... (i)
Also, (n - 43 - 45)/(x - 2) = 62 + 2 = 64
n - 88 = 64(x - 2)
From (i)
62x - 88 = 64x - 128
2x = 40
x = 20
