CBSE Class 8 Answered
Before the advent of the British, the caste system largely defined education in India. While the Brahmins studied various subjects like Sanskrit literature, math, philosophy, languages, science etc, the people of the lower caste did not have any right to education. The scenario began to change gradually after the advent of the British in India. They introduced formal education and opened various private schools, colleges and universities. The Indian government after independence followed the same system of education. The older people who lived in villages and were allowed to attend schools studied literature, Vedas, math, philosophy, history mostly through the medium of vernacular language. Practical knowledge was imparted to them and their courses also included education on agriculture. In cities, in colleges people studied law, sciences, math, history, philosophy, sociology, medicines etc. Vocational and technical education was also provided to the interested and deserving students.
