When a canon explodes in air, the sum of momnetas of all pieces summed togther vectorially will be equal to the momentum of the canon before the explosion. This relation comes from the law of conservation of linear momentum.
There will be definete loss in kinetic energy of the cannon before & after the explosion in the form of potential & other dissipative forms of heat, light & sound.
