Dear student,
The normal reaction by the surface is always perpendicular to the surface.
By newton's third law the surface gives a reaction.The reaction has two components,one perpendicular to surface known as normal reaction and other is parallel to surface i.e. friction.
So weight is balanced by net reaction which is a vector sum of normal reaction and friction.
