The time required to attain maximum height,

t = u/g = 15/9.8 = 1.53 s

The time 1 second before reaching maximum height = 1.53 - 1 = 0.53

The distance travelled in the last second = distance travelled in 1.53 s - distance travelled in 0.53 s

= (ut1 - (1/2)gt12 )- (ut2 - (1/2)gt22)

= 15 - 0.5x9.8(1.532 - 0.532)

= 4.9 m
