Expert Answer
In an atom, electron generally surround the main nucleus i.e electrons encircle the positive charge. In this situation the centre of -ve charge is coinciding with centre of +ve charge that is both have same central point. If a new +ve charge is brought close to this atom, the electron cloud will be attracted towards +ve charge and the structure of the atom would become strectehed like an egg shape. Do centre of -ve charge and +ve charges do not coincide but form two equal and opposite charges like an enemy separated by some distance. So we just study this behaviour under electric field of the dipole.
