Both glycogen and starch are storage depots of glucose in animals and plants respectively.
Animals store excess glucose by polymerizing it to form glycogen. Plants convert excess glucose into starch for storage. Then these polysaccharides are hydrolyzed as needed in order to have some glucose available to provide energy.
