Saline  hydrides are also called as ionic hydrides.

Saline hydride for example NaH react with traces of water present as impurity in the organic compounds forming hydrogen gas and the corresponding base thus removing trace amount of water

NaH+H2O ---->H2 (g)+NaOH

Because of its rapid and irreversible reaction with water, NaH can be used to dry some organic solvents
