CBSE Class 10 Answered

"Plants are due to presence of chlorophyll" and "We should have more and more green vegetables as they are rich in nutrients" so my question is that as chlorophyll helps in absorption of sunlight so it is bad for us in summers then why it is advised to have green vegies throughout the year?

Hi Vidia, Chlorophyll is a green compound found in leaves and green stems of plants. The intense green colour of chlorophyll is due to its strong absorbencies in the red and blue regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Chlorophyll can absorb sunlight and transfer light energy by resonance energy transfer to a specific chlorophyll pair in the reaction centre of the photosystems only in the electromagnetic spectrum. Although, we consume chlorophyll through green vegetables, the chlorophyll molecules will not be activated to absorb sunlight in the normal visible spectrum. So, it is not true that we should avoid eating green vegetables throughout the year. Chlorophyll stimulates red blood cell production and helps boost our energy levels. So, when you need to make important decisions about your health and well-being, a distinct advantage can be a healthy dose of skepticism.
