On turning a corner, a motorist rushing at 44 ms-1 find a child on the road ahead. He is currently stops the engine and applies the brakes so as to stop it within 1m of the child. Calculate time required to stop it stops.

u =44m/s
v=0m/s
s =100 - 1 =99m
v2 -u2= 2as
- 442 = 2 × a × 99
-1936 = 2 × 99 × a
a= -9.77m/s2
Now,
v =u+at
0= 44 -9.77 t
t = 44/9.77 =4.50 s
