These days, writing has become a commercial affair. The publishers want writers to cater to the tastes of the general public however ridiculous they may be. Authors, for their subsistence, also have to abide by what the readers want. There is no integrity in writing anymore.
Whether authors should always write to please their readers, even if they do not agree with it themselves.
Commercial writers make a living out of their writings. They need to cater to the needs of the readers. But an independent writer may write what he likes.
