Dear Student
In parallel circuit the potential drop across the two resistors will be same (Say V).
Now V = iR = i1R1 = i2R2
i1 / i2 = R2/R1 = 40/20 = 2.
That is, current through 20 ohms resistor is twice the current through 40 ohms resistor.
Resistor with higher resistance has a lower current flowing through it.
