Magnetic compass is device which is used to find the direction.
It is possoble because earth has its own magnetic field. Thus, the needle rest itself in north-south direction. As the north pole of the magnetic needle attracts to the south pole of earth's magnet and south pole of magnetic needle is attracted by the Earth's magnetic north pole.
