The larynx (voice box) is a part of the respiratory system that holds the vocal cords. It is composed primarily of muscles and cartilages that are bound together by elastic tissues. Stratified squamous epithelium also known as respiratory epithelium is present in the larynx above the vocal chords. It helps in sound production Pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium is present below the vocal chords.
