Small farmers own a very little portion of the total cultivable land, and the medium and large farmers own a very large portion of the total cultivable land in the Palampur village. The reason behind this unequal distribution-

The fertility of the soil and other farming techniques leads to variations in the size of holding cultivable land. Small farmers lands are fragmented and found in tiny plots scattered all over the village because of the law of inheritance. Due to small and fragmented land holdings, even improved irrigation and modern farming techniques are not sufficient.
