If you have modulus on both side of the equation, then we will consider all the four cases.

Let the equation be | ax + b| = |cy + d|

Then,

Case 1: Both +ve, our equation will become

ax + b = cx + d .............(1)

Case 2: LHS +ve and RHS -ve, our equation will become

ax + b = -cx -d .................(2)

Case 3: LHS -ve and RHS +ve, our equation will become

-ax-b = cx + d ..................(3)

which can be reduced to equation 2.

CAse 4: Both -ve.

-ax-b = -cx - d ................(4)

which will reduce to euqation (1).

So in that case you have to solve for case 1 and case 2 indiviually.
