mixed grouing of cells

There are n cells each of emf E. Thus, the total emf of the combination of n cells is nE.
Now, m cells are wrongly connected, that is connected with reverse polarity. So, total emf of these cells is mE which will be reduced from the total emf of the combination.
Thus, the resultant emf is
nE - mE = (n - m)E
