mitochondria mean

- Mitochondria are an important cell organelles present in cells. They are known as powerhouses of the cells.
- They have varied shapes, but usually are sausage-like.
- They are tiny rod-shaped or spherical organelles.
- The mitochondria are double walled, with inner wall thrown into folds, called cristae.
Functions of mitochondria:
- Release and store energy
- Synthesis of respiratory enzymes
- Synthesis of energy-rich compounds such as ATP.
