Chemical properties of metals:
1)Metals are electropositive i.e. they have a tendency to lose electrons and form positive ions.
2)Metals react with oxygen forming metal oxide which are basic in nature.
3)Metals react with water to form metal oxide and hydrogen
Chemical properties of non-metals:
1)Non-metals generally have a tendency to accept eletrons i.e. they are electronegative
2)Non-metals react with oxygen forming non-metal oxide which are acidc in nature
3)Non-metals do not react with water to evolve hydrogen gas
