This is because:
Potassium : Potassium metal react with water and produce potassium oxide and hydrogengas. potassium oxide is soluble in water and it dissolves in water further form potassium hydroxide.
Ferric oxide is not soluble in watre and hence when iron reacts with water, it does not form a hydroxide but an oxide instead.
