Two soil conservation schemes launched by the governemnt are:
Integrated Watershed Management: This scheme was launched during the Sixth Five Year Plans in the catchments of 8 flood prone rivers. The scheme's objective is to increase the capacity of the catchment area and reduction of soil erosion.
Reclamation and development of ravine areas: This scheme was launched in 1987-88 in the states of MP, UP and Rajasthan. The aim of the scheme is the afforestation of ravines. This is expected to improve the quality of soil.
