Let his original speed be x and time required with this speed be T.

Then xT = 108,

(x +2)(T - 4.5) = 108

xT - 4.5x + 2T - 9 = 108 = xT

2T - 4.5x = 9

2(108/x) - 4.5x = 9

4.5x2 + 9x - 216 = 0

x = [-9 ±(81 + 3888)]/9

x = ( -9 + 63)/9 = 6 km/hr.
