let age of A is x +2  so that of B is x.   age of A's father is  2.(x + 2)  and age of B's sister is x/2

so  2(x + 2) -  x/2  = 40  ====>  4x + 8 - x = 80  ===>  3x = 72 ==> x = 24 

age of  A is 26 and age of B is 24
