suppose x students appeared.
so num who failed is x/4
those who passed is 3x/4
suppose 8 more had appeared, then x+8 would have appeared.
6 less passed so, (3x/4)-6 would have passed.
so num who failed would be [x+8]-[(3x/4)-6]=(x+14)-3x/4
then ratio of passed to failed is 2:1
solving we get,
