Expert Answer:

Let A, X and Y be the area, length and bredth of the rectangle.

A = XY            ... (1)

and P = Perimeter = 2(X+Y) = 32.

2X + 2Y = 32        ... (2)

Now, if we do X + 2 and Y - 1,

A = (X + 2)( Y - 1) = XY + 2Y - X - 2

A = A + 2Y - X - 2         ... using (1)

X - 2Y = -2              ... (3),

Add (2) and (3),

we get,

3X = 30

X = 10 m and hence Y = 16 - 10 = 6 m.

Hence the dimensions of the plot are 10 m x 6 m.
