Kerala is at the south western most tip of India.
The monsoon winds blow from the sea and make landfall at the state of Kerala.
It further moves northward.
The phenomenon of retreating monsoon where the monsoon winds withdraw from the land of the sub continent is also last to leave kerala due to its geographical closeness to the Indian ocean.
Therefore, due to its location, Kerala almost falls in the tropical belt that sees heavy rainfall in the year.
