Yes, it is very much important because most area in India is rain-fed, that is, the success of crops in most areas is dependent on timely monsoon & sufficient rainfall spread through most of the growing seasons. Hence poor monsoon causes crop failure. Therefore it is important to increase the area under irrigation to ensure that crops get water at right stages during their growing season so that expected yield of any crop increases.
