Transpiration is the major cause of development of root pressure. Transpiration is the loss of water from aerial part of plant. The loss of water leaves cells with less water potential which creates the osmotic pressure. The osmotic pressure generates the root pressure which is a force which help the movement of water and minerals upwards.
