is the oxidation number anything to do with the valency if the concerned element,in general?

Valency is the combining capacity of an element. this means that it shows whether an element will lose electrons or gain electrons and how many when it combines with other elements.
Oxidation number, on teh other hand is the charge which an atom appears to have when all the other atoms are removed from it as ions.
