answered-by-expert Expert Answer
  • During respiration, glucose molecules are decomposed into simple carbon dioxide and water molecules.
  • Respiration breaks down organic matter, releases the energy stored within it and makes it available for life processes.
  • Carbon dioxide is a waste product of respiration and is formed from carbon and oxygen which were originally part of the food molecules.
  • Heat energy is released from cells during respiration. Also, heat is used in breaking up glucose to release energy.
  • Hence, respiration is a thermal decomposition reaction, or more specifically, an exothermic reaction.
