Is newton's third law a cause-effect relation?

Suppose a box of mass "m" is placed over a table.
Gravity pulls it down with a force F = mg
Since it is placed on a table and has no net acceleration thus it is applying some force on table and the table applies some force on box which balances the other force.
thus the reaction force applied by the table on box is F =mg on the opposite direction simultaneously.
