Is it true that the sum of irrational numbers is always an irrational number?

Dear Student,
This is a false statement.
Sum of two irrational numbers can add to give a rational number.
For example:
Take two irrational numbers as 1 + Sqrt(2) and 1 - Sqrt(2)
When we add these two irrational numbers Sqrt (2) gets cancelled and only "2" remains which is a rational number.
