is butan-1-ol same as butanol?of the functional group or double bond comes at 1 in counting is it necessary to write 1 while naming the compound?

Since the -OH group can be at position-2, also(2-butanol), hence both are different.
In 1-butanol, the OH functional group is at position 1, at the four membered hydrocarbon chain. Similarly, if OH group is at 2-position at the four membered chain, it is 2-butanol.
We hope that clarifies your query.
