n communications and electronic engineering, an intermediate frequency (IF) is a frequency to which a carrier frequency is shifted as an intermediate step in transmission or reception.

It consists of an oscillator, an electronic devise, which in turn consists of

1/Variable capacitor or variable inductor if the devise is analog,

2/Digital synthesizer if the done digitally.
