In the figure, AB=12 and AC=8

To find the radius of the circle.

Using tangent secant segment theorem, we have

AB

^{2}= AC x AD12

^{2}= 8 x ADAD = 144/8 = 18

Triangle ABD is a right angled triangle right angle at B

Using Pythagoras theorem, we have

AD

^{2}= AB^{2}+ BD^{2}18

^{2}= 12^{2}+ BD^{2}BD

^{2}= 324 - 144BD

^{2}= 180
