In the figure, AB=12 and AC=8
To find the radius of the circle.
Using tangent secant segment theorem, we have
AB2 = AC x AD
122 = 8 x AD
AD = 144/8 = 18
Triangle ABD is a right angled triangle right angle at B
Using Pythagoras theorem, we have
AD2 = AB2 + BD2
182 = 122 + BD2
BD2 = 324 - 144
BD2 = 180
BD equals square root of 180 equals 6 square root of 5
Therefore comma space radius space of space the space circle space BO equals BD over 2 equals 3 square root of 5
