In the deuterium-tritium fusion reaction, find the rate at which deuterium and tritium are consumed to produce 1MW. The Q-value of deuterium-tritium reaction is 17.6 MeV. Assume that the efficiency is 100%.

Total energy produced/sec = 1MW  =106watt =1000000 joule per sec
energy released/ fusion =17.6 MeV
                                   =17.6 x 1.6 x10-13J
                                   =28.16 x 10-13J
hence, Number of fusions/sec =(106)/(28.16 x 10-13)
                                           =35.51 x 1016
