in the activity for starch test, its given that you should cover a part of the leaf with thick black paper to prevent the leaf from getting sunlight. but doesn't the colour black absorb more light?

Expert Answer:

It is because black paper is a good absorber of light that it is used to cover the leaf. Being a good absorber of light, it blocks the entry of light to the leaf (i.e. does not allow light to pass on to the leaf) and hence no photosynthesis occurs in covered portion.
