in a cricket match a batsman hits a boundary 8 times out of the balls he plays. find the balls he play if the probability of not getting boundary is 80%

let number of balls played be x.
P(hitting boundary) = 8/x
P(not hitting boundary) = 1-8/x = 80/100 (given)
(x-8)/x = 4/5
5x - 40 = 4x
x = 40
So, number of balls played is 40.
