In a A.C. generator, from where is the mechanical energy provided to start it ?

A diesel generator is the combination of a diesel engine with an electrical generator (often called an alternator) to generate electric energy.  like in vehicles truck or  bus where a diesel engine is used but the difference is that in vehicles the fuel is used to move the vehicle from one place to another and in generators it is used to rotate the coil.
