Expert Answer
We know power, P = V2/R
thus R = V2/P
for both the devices the reistances will be:
R1 = 1100 ohm
and R2 = 4400 ohm
total resistance of series combination: R = R1+R2 = 5500 ohm
when it is connected across 440V the current flowing will be: I = 440/5500 = 4/50 = 2/25 A
now the power frlowing through the devices will be given by I2R
P1 = I2R1
and P2 = I2R2
the device with power exceeding the power rating will burn out.
