y = sinwt - cos wt .........................(i)
Put = r cos and = r sin
Squaring and adding, we have, a + b = r2
or |r| =
Therefore, y = r sinwt cos - rsincoswt
or y = r sin (wt- ) ...........................(ii)
This represents the motion of a harmonic oscillator
Amplitude of motion = r = y =
Length of the path = 2r = 2
